‘Heavy is the head that wears the crown’ but the royalty displayed on ‘Royale’ is regal yet relaxed. Ares Knight is effective with his effortlessness, his latest EP ‘Royale’ opens up with no problems lyrically and literally with the opener ‘No Problem’ displaying his signature flawless wit, one liners and humor. Bars are not only clever on delivery but further emphasized by adlibs that unveil their metaphorical intent. Immediately after ‘Heated’ hits with a catchy beat with nonstop strings and bass heavy programmed trap drums, the sonic soundscape is the perfect foundation for a melodic hook that is as catchy as it is integral. Leafy Luhk hops on with a nonstop flow which instantly makes him the center of attention without losing his breath during a rapid fire delivery that firmly plants his flag in the foundation of the track alongside Ares’.
‘N64’, the top down summer playa anthem, follows and keeps the momentum of Royale in high gear. ‘Swish’ slows down the tempo and sombers the mood with an eerie instrumental with haunting keys and a ghastly piano loop. Ares Knight’s lyrics retain their stature and regal presence as well as their wit and humor though the soundscape is darker . ‘VPG’ continues the previous mood, though more candid and frank than some of the more light-hearted tracks. Street lingo, boss talk, and pimp wisdom have their furthest expansion on VPG and occupy the majority of the track, the most lucid and straight forward on the EP, a fitting closer for a flawless musical offering.
