Bloody Monk Consortium (Labal-S & Leeroy Destroy) returns with the new LP ‘Sumo Monk’. The first release since the passing of Labal-S. They return with a heavy dose of their signature raw underground hardcore Hip-Hop. The album opener and title track ‘SumoMonk’ is laced with a gritty beat by producer Luger Lex, dusty drum breaks lay the rhythm underneath a mystic loop of plucked ancient strings. Lyrically the fire is felt over top this signature soundscape and sets the tone for the full album. ‘The Ghost Of Tsushima’ continues the mood, an amalgamation of lush ambient Asian melodies, samples, and raw crunchy breakbeats. Coal assists on the hard hitting ‘Hammer Fist’ with a rapid fire flow and war ready instrumental, the hardcore Hip-Hop is on full display. Each track crafts a dark mood and lyrically is laced with double entendres, witty punchlines, obscure references, and street wisdom. ‘Saki Bomb’ acts as a training session in a dojo with Labal-S giving out lessons. The album concludes with ‘FreeRayzWaltz’ a somber end note with a message recorded over ambient strings, and ancient flutes. Wrapping the entire project up to a poetic end before the victory lap of heavy drums come knocking in for the final verses. In just nine tracks Blood Monk Consortium’s ‘Sumo Monk’ shows why they are Hip-Hop heavy weights.
