Kid Corinthia’s latest release ‘Gnosis’ kicks starts with the laid back first track ‘Back And Forth’. Downtempo crunchy drums act as a slowed down Trip-Hop drum-break as Kid Corinthia flows above the programmed percussion and hypnotic jazzy horn sample loop. Detailing life, dreams, and parenthood all in an elegant nuanced subtle manner of thanks and appreciation. The mental clarity continues on ‘Be Free’ which has Kid Corinthia’s existential wisdom on full display. With optimism he guides the listener through a rejoice of life with a chant-like hook that doubles as a mantra and a chorus driven bridge sung in unison. On brand ‘Gnosis’ offers an insight into the thoughts of an artist with “knowledge of spiritual mysteries” the sleek Jazzy Soulful production lays the groundwork for the deeper heartfelt and soulful content on the album. Kid Corinthia’s mind and ear are in sync, the entire project flows together seamlessly. Themes of adulthood, lineage, and existence are littered throughout ‘Gnosis’, most notably on ‘Mother’ and ‘Classic’. The introspection is immediately felt, and though sonically linked, they stand in contrast to the braggadocio and curtness of ‘Butterfly’ and ‘El Corinthiano’ which both find Kid Corinthia in MC attack mode. ‘Gnosis’ ends on a sonic somber note that finds Kid Corinthia in a further state of thanks and acceptance. An all around amazing project that is filled with much of what modern music is lacking: heart, substance, and originality.
