The band posted teasers on both Instagram and Twitter and enticed worldwide fans with a cryptic video on Twitter that included snippets of their career while ‘Baba O’Riley’ played in the background. Later, the band posted “big UK announcement” coming this Monday (January 28) at 10 am on Instagram with Wembley Stadium in the background.

After announcing their US tour in Spring, fans couldn’t help but anticipate a show at Wembley. The band’s frontman, Roger Daltrey recently confirmed a new album to be released later this year and fans can expect “dark ballads, heavy rock stuff, experimental electronica, sampled stuff and Who-ish tunes that began with a guitar that goes yanga-dang.”

Joni Mitchell: Both Sides Now Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970

December 2, 2018 by Nicole Mitchell Leave a Comment

Joni Mitchell was told to perform an impossible solo and acoustic gig before her scheduled time in front of hundreds of thousands of fans. Many of them were there to see The Who perform later in the day. The event was said to be larger than the previous year’s Woodstock. Mitchell’s set was interrupted by an on-stage heckler who railed against the commercialism of the festival. Others tore down the metal fencing that circled the site in an attempt of devastating rants. The young artist preserved and won over the crowd even though she seemed to be on the verge of tears, shook by the aggressive behaviour of the audience.

The 1969 Woodstock Festival

August 15, 2018 by Nicole Mitchell Leave a Comment

Today, 49 years ago, the Woodstock Festival was held outside New York on Max Yasgur’s 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel.
The Woodstock Festival was a three-day concert attended by over 400,000 people and involved a whole lot of sex, drugs and rock ’n roll. The event featured artists such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Band, Joe Cocker, Arlo Guthrie, Blood Sweat and Tears, Country Joe and the Fish, Ravi Shanker Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Santana, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Grateful Dead, Canned Heat, Joan Baez, Melanie, Ten Years After, Sly and the Family Stone, Johnny Winter, and Jefferson Airplane.

Organised by four young men, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld, and Mike Lang, the 1969 Woodstock Festival became an icon of the 60’s hippie counterculture. The oldest of the four at the time was only 27 years old.

The Stones, Ricky Tick 1963, Windsor

June 21, 2018 by Nicole Mitchell Leave a Comment

Today in 1963, The Rolling stones played at Ricky Tick Club, Star and Garter Hotel, Windsor, Berkshire. This 1960’s rhythm & blues club in Berkshire hosted many influential artists which also included Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Who, Eric Clapton and Cream. John Mansfield recalls the first time he saw The Stones. The music promoter was in search of bands to put on his newly established club’s stage. He heard about The Rolling Stones before and booked them to play at Ricky Tick for the first time in December 1962. The Stones, now a multi-million-album-selling band, got their first big break in Windsor and actually played Ricky Tick’s at least 39 times during 1962 to 1964.
